After May 1997, CRA has amended the child support payments and declared them as not deductible but spousal payments are. This means you can't deduct any amount relating to child support.

However, if the recipient is a non-resident and the payer is a Canadian Resident, you may not need to withhold the tax on the payments and you can deduct the payments only if the conditions are met outlined by CRA.
