Hello,
According to CRA's instructions for Form T1135, "where a particular specified foreign property has been reported all of the other fields associated with that particular property must also be completed. All nil amounts should be reported by indicating "0" in the corresponding field rather than leaving it blank. Amounts should be rounded to the nearest dollar."
When I tried to enter "0" in Part B-2 for "shares of non-resident corporations (other than foreign affiliates)", the 0 would show up on screen, but once I tab to the next cell, the 0 disappears. When I print the T1135, the cells that are supposed to have 0 are blank. These cells could be "cost amount at year end" (e.g. when the taxpayer no longer holds the shares on December 31 of the tax year), "gross income" (e.g. when the taxpayer did not receive any income from the shares during the year) or "gain (loss) on disposition" (e.g. when the taxpayer did not dispose of the shares during the year).
I have read some posts that suggest entering "0.1" or clearing the cache, sign out and restart the computer, neither of which works. Turbotax only accepts dollars and not cents for entry into the T1135, and clearing the cache and re-logging in does not fix the problem.
When I use Easy Step, I see that the cells show "0" where I want zero's, but as with the Forms format, when I print the T1135 after using the Easy Step, the cells where the zero's are supposed to be are still blank.
Turbotax is supposed to be approved by the CRA, so presumably this has been accepted for filing by CRA? I am sure it affects many Turbotax users, as it appears not to be an issue only with Part B-2, but also with the other sections in Part B.
This issue appears to have been identified for several years now, but still remains unresolved. Can you please advise what users have to do here, if Turbotax is not printing zero's as inputted by the user into the T1135 form, when the CRA instructions indicate that all nil amounts should be reported by indicating "0" in the corresponding field rather than leaving it blank?
Thank you.
