Form T1135-5 Lines for Part B(2)
There have been many posts in this community from several years complaining about the limited number of lines available for Part B(2) of the Form T1135 for "shares of non-resident corporations". Initially, it appears there were only 3 lines available, and now it has 5, but there is no option to add more lines. In contrast, Part B(7) "property held in an account with a Canadian registered securities dealer or a Canadian trust company" has close to 40 lines.
1. Given that it is not uncommon for users to have shares of more than 5 non-resident corporations, is Turbotax planning to fix this limitation? If yes, when? This issue has been raised for many years and each time, the response has been the issue has been forwarded to the development team, but unfortunately, there has been no resolution for at least the past 5 years?
2. If a Turbotax user has to report more than 5 companies in Part B(2), is it possible to answer "YES" to the T1135 question in the first few pages of the T1 General, but only netfile the T1, but not netfile the T1135? This way, the user has the option to paper-file the T1135 separately, using CRA's fillable form available online?
3. If a Turbotax user has to amend a T1135 that has already been netfiled, does the user have to wait until he/she receives the notice of assessment for the T1, or can an amended T1135 be netfiled even before the T1 assessment notice is received, since the T1135 is filed separately anyway and no assessment notice is issued for the T1135 in the normal course?
Thank you.

We do pass on customer's suggestions, but but for whatever reason they have not implemented the change. One workaround is to combine items if possible. Or, since the T1135 gets sent separately from the T1, you can mail in your Foreign Income Verification Statement instead of filing it online.
As far as I know, you still need to wait for your notice of assessment before using ReFile to make any changes. But if you need to make changes to your T1135, you can also do it through CRA's MyAccount.

Hello,
Has there been any resolution to this issue of having only 5 lines available for the T1135? Other tax software like UFile provide way more lines for its users. Limiting the number of lines to 5 for Part B(2)-Shares of non-resident corporations is not realistic. It is not correct to "combine items" as suggested in TurboTaxSusan's response below since the T1135 instructions clearly say that the taxpayer must "report the detail of EACH PARTICULAR PROPERTY that was held at any time during the year in the appropriate category". Also, asking the customer to mail in the T1135 when Netfile capability is supposed to be available with the software does not seem to take into consideration that this presents additional work and cost to the customer. I don't understand while there are so many lines available in the Schedule 3, but only 5 lines are available in Part B(2) of the T1135.
This issue has been raised in earlier years. If it has not been fixed for the 2025 year, is TurboTax ever going to get around to fixing it? If not, customers who hold shares of more than 5 non-resident corporations at any time during the year may have to seek other software options unless they want to be saddled with the additional inconvenience and cost of filing the T1135 by mail separately.
Thank you.

Hello,
Thank you for your response. As noted in the original poster's message, as of 2025 for the year 2024, this issue has been raised for at least the past 5 years, so this would be (at least) the 6th year that no resolution has been reached. This is a very basic issue so it is frustrating that we are getting the same (non)answer every year. Can you at least inquire from your development team IF there is a plan to add more lines (so that your customers can plan accordingly, including considering other software options if this longstanding issue is not going to be resolved for 2026)? By this time, it is hoped that your development team can provide a status update, rather than just receiving the comment year after year from your customers?
Thank you.

@JustAsking1 I hear you, and I completely understand why it feels like we’re stuck on repeat with this one. Six years is a long time to wait for a specific update, and I want to be as direct as possible with you because I know how much you value a clear answer.
Right now, we don’t have a confirmed timeline for adding more lines to the T1135. I know that’s not the 'yes' you were looking for, and I wish I had a more definitive update to share today. These kinds of structural changes to our forms can be more complex than they look on the surface, but we definitely recognize that it's a pain point for our power users.
Please understand that this is not just a suggestion box; your post is exactly the type of feedback we use to prioritize what we work on next.
We really value your loyalty over the years, and we'll be sure to share any news here as soon as we have it.
