The review warns nil tuition can be transferred to a parent's return, even though the student return shows a carryforward amount of $4K. Can the 4K be transferred?
Do I ignore the turbo tax warning message that nil is available for transfer? The carryforward amount is less than the $5K maximum that can be transferred. Is this a turbo tax error? The carryforward is for tuition paid in 2018 for the 2018 school year. There are no amounts from prior years.

If the tuition credits are from a previous tax year, they cannot be transferred. A student can only transfer tuition credits in the year that they actually paid them. For example, if the student went to school in 2016 and is now trying to transfer those credits in 2018, they will be disallowed.

The tuition was paid in 2018 for the 2018 tax year...so still doesn't make sense that the carryforward amount is showing as nil transferrable.
