Is this how any credits in the statement of account can be claimed? I have a credit from tax overpayment that has been carrying forward for a few years now that I would like to finally access.

This is only if you haven’t already reported a personal tax instalment over-payment to the CRA yet. If you have already contacted the CRA about the overpayment, they would let you know what you need to enter on your tax return.
