Credits and deductions
I received a letter from an employer who informed that a 2023 repayment of salary, repaid in 2024 tax year, can be claimed as a "repayment of T4 earnings" on line 22900 (other employment expenses) on personal income tax return and to claim the expense in the same year as the repayment.
According to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), I can deduct this as it been repaid in the 2024 tax year and cannot deduct if is more than the income received.
Question:
How do I file the $301.48 salary repayment in TurboTax under line 22900 (other employment expenses) and for which tax year (2023 / 2024)?
While trying to file this in TurboTax, I was presented with several options, including claiming the GST/HST rebate, reporting motor vehicle expenses, outstanding loans on my vehicle, and leased automobiles. Other options included claiming other employment expenses, office in home expenses, tradesperson's tools expenses, the labour mobility deduction for an eligible tradesperson, apprentice mechanic expenses, and musical instrument expenses. Should I use the "Other Employment Expenses" option in TurboTax where to claim the repayment?
