Has TurboTax changed the settings requiring the parent with the higher income to claim the DTC?

For the past few years, I've always used TurboTax for filing our income taxes; however, 2025 was the first year my husband had the higher income. In the past, TurboTax has required the parent with the higher income to claim the DTC. I cannot do this as the DTC was filed in MY name. I do not want to change the name on the DTC to my husband's name. Is there a way to override this in TurboTax so that I can continue claiming it on my taxes? Otherwise, I need to switch to another platform for filing.

Unfortunately, if you use TurboTax Online, you cannot change which spouse receives the dependent's disability transfer. It will be automatically claimed by the spouse with the higher earnings. You can do this in TurboTax CD/Download, but you may not be able to NETFILE your return.

Alternatively, you can file the returns without the transfer and then make the necessary adjustments later. Or redo the returns separately so you can put the transfer under your name without the software moving it to your spouse, who has higher income.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

The claim for the DTC does not require a name change to be applied to either spouse. You may also have a claim for caregiver that one can claim while the other claims the DTC.
