Filing
We understand how frustrating it must be. Unfortunately, there is no way to add additional lines to the T1135. To reduce the number of lines required, group your stocks and enter only the totals. We have always passed on this feedback to our development team.
The T1135 (Foreign Income Verification Statement) is a form that you have to fill out on the same day as your T1 (April 30 or June 15). If you try to submit your T1 (Income Tax Return) without including a required T1135, the system will fail because the CRA database needs to follow foreign reporting rules before it can process the tax return.
If you indicated in your T1 return that you own foreign property exceeding $100,000 CAD, you are obligated to file Form T1135.
- If you say "Yes" to T1135 needed: The software diagnostics will show an error or rejection (a "failed to file" status) if you try to submit the T1 but have not submitted or attached the T1135, because the T1 indicates a requirement for the T1135 that isn't met.
- Separate Packet Protocol: When using NETFILE, you are technically sending two separate electronic files. The T1135 file is not part of the T1 file. The software, however, keeps them linked to ensure you meet the legal requirements and avoid penalties.
If you are not required to file a T1135 (i.e., you do not own more than $100,000 CAD in foreign property), you must ensure you did not accidentally check the "Yes" box on your T1 tax return regarding this requirement.
Your feedback is valuable to us. I will pass this along to our development team. Thanks.
