A bursary reported in Box 105 is generally non-taxable if you were a full-time student, but TurboTax needs more information from you to apply the exemption. Because Box 105 is used for both taxable and non-taxable awards, the software defaults to "taxable" until you categorize it.
If you were a full-time student in 2024, 2025, or 2026 for the period the bursary covers, the amount is fully exempt (0% tax).
In the T4A entry screen, look for a dropdown menu or a sub-box immediately following Box 105.
Choose the option that says "Full-time scholarship" or "Scholarship/bursary (Full-time)".
Once you select the full-time status and ensure your T2202 (Tuition Slip) information is also entered in the return, TurboTax will automatically move that income to a non-taxable line, and it will no longer affect your balance owing.
If you were a part-time student, only the first $500 is typically exempt, plus the cost of your tuition and materials; the rest would remain taxable
