After you file
If you have filed your tax return, you will have to wait for your Notice of Assessment from the CRA before Refiling.
There are 3 things to keep in mind when reporting foreign-sourced income on your Canadian tax return;
- a) Your residency status,
- b) The type of income you are reporting and;
- c) Country of origin to determine if we have a tax treaty to avoid double taxation.
In your case, we have a treaty with India. This means you may be able to claim a Foreign Tax Credit.
To find the slips needed in TurboTax, use the "Find" icon (top right of your screen) and type in whatever specific form or slip you are looking for.
Below is a list of commonly used Foreign reporting slips/forms:
- Foreign Income slip
- T1135 - Foreign Income Verification
- T3 - Statement of Trust Income Allocations & Designations
- T5 - Statement of Investment Income
- T5013 - Statement of Partnership Income
Hope this helps!
