My 93 year old mother lives in an assisted living center and as of last month she ran out of money. We will be paying more that 55% of her total expenses over and above her social security and small pension. If we carry her as a dependent on our tax return, do we have to declare her social security and pension as income? Then how do we declare that expense as a write off??
