I just tried it again as I described. My manual calculations, for my return of that of my spouse equate to the amount that Turbotax calculated when I made the adjustments that I described in an earlier post. I even went 1 step further and just left the boxes 52 and 53, and I removed the amount in Box 21, and I get the same result. No duplication was seen. So it seems that with the current version of TT, it doesn't seems to matter what amount is in Box 21.
Again as I said, it is up to Turbotax to fix the issue and not the user to use workarounds that may or may not be accepted by the CRA and MRQ.
