Troubleshooting

Since you are filing as a non-resident, your spouse's income situation depends on whether you are claiming a credit for them.

If you are NOT claiming the "Spousal Amount," you generally do not need to include his global income in the calculation of your taxes. However, TurboTax may still ask for his "Net World Income" in the personal information section to determine your eligibility for certain family-based benefits (though most of these aren't available to non-residents anyway).

If you ARE claiming the Spousal Amount: If your spouse earned very little and you are trying to claim a tax credit for "supporting" him, you must report his total world income in Canadian dollars.
