When you prepare a joint return, TurboTax Online will charge you for two returns. Pricing is based on the number of returns prepared. If you want to avoid paying for your spouse's return, file separate returns for each of you—use the Deluxe or Premier version for your spouse and the Self-Employed version for yourself.

If you wish to prepare a joint return, you will be charged for the version used to prepare and file both returns together. You can choose the option that works best for you.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

I do rather have the option to purchase plan according to individual needs while filing together.

Your feedback has been noted! Unfortunately, as previously stated, that option is not available; you can only create a joint return if the versions are the same.
