I receive child support and it’s not considered income. Why am I being asked about it and asked to enter my amount received?

As per the Canada Revenue Agency(CRA): All child support payable to a recipient must be fully paid before any amounts paid as support for the recipient can be claimed as a deduction. Any overdue child support amounts are carried forward and added to the next year’s support payments.

You entering the amount helps the CRA keep track of what has been paid and can be used as a deduction.

For clarification about the child support you receive, please see our TurboTax article: The Tax Treatment of Support Payments
