If I am filing joint, why was I charged twice for review and return

As a general rule, you should never be charged more than one time per return filed. However, there are some scenarios where you may be prompted to pay for additional features or services, including:

  • If you initially paid for your TurboTax return and then chose to upgrade, TurboTax will prompt you to pay the difference.
  • If you paid for an individual return, then chose to also prepare a return together with your spouse simultaneously, TurboTax will prompt you to pay the difference.
  • If you decided to register for Audit Defence or added another offer (like our Plus bundle), TurboTax will prompt you to pay the difference.
  • If you purchased a pre-payment code through an email promotion but haven’t entered the code into TurboTax yet.

Note: Once you choose to upgrade or attach a service like Audit Defence or the Plus bundle, you cannot downgrade or remove the service. To continue without the upgrade or attached services, you’ll need to start a new return.

If none of these scenarios apply, or if you are experiencing other issues, please contact our phone support team or contact us directly on Facebook or Twitter.
