I received an email offering to sell 2021 Turbo-tax. Site was confusing and asked for DOB and SIN. Still could not complete purchase. Now I am suspicious that the email was a scam.

Yes, this is a legitimate site. It will ask you for your DOB and SIN if you choose to recover a TurboTax account that you no longer have the Phone number, email or user ID for. If you don’t have a TurboTax account, you can click the “Create an account.” link at the bottom of the sign in page to create a new one. You must have a TurboTax account if you would like to purchase the Download version of TurboTax directly from us.
