Married filed jointly account access and two-factor authentication - TurboTax enabling financial abuse

I am married filing jointly with my spouse, so TurboTax forces us to use the same account to file our taxes. There's no way for us to set up our account so I can have access without asking him to send me the two-factor authentication code that goes to his email. This means he has full control over my ability to access and monitor our/my taxes. There is no way for us to add a second email onto the account for two-factor authentication.

Although my partner gives me access whenever I ask, this system is not only inconvenient, but reminiscent of times when when women were not allowed to open bank accounts or credit cards without their husband's permission. You MUST ensure both parties have equal access to tax documents.

Unfortunately, there is no way to put more than one email address as the contact email for your TurboTax/Intuit account. However, if you have an email address that both spouses can access, you can use that instead. Or you can see if your spouse can set an automatic forwarding rule on his email account, so that you get a copy of the authentication email to your email address without having to ask.

Also if you feel very strongly about keeping your tax information separate from your spouse, you can create your own account and prepare your return separately from his. As you are married, you'll still need to provide your spouse with some of your information (and they will have to give you theirs), but your spouse would not have access or control over your full tax return.

I think an easier solution for the millions of couples who are 'married, filed jointly' is for you to allow a second email or phone number to be enabled for two-factor authentication. Not sure why all of us need to set up new email addresses or complex auto-forward rules to have equal access to our taxes.
