I am having this happen to. So when I start the expenses for business 1 - it has the entire amount but then it asks me total commission as the first question - can I separate it there?
@heathermac11 No. Your self-employment income from your t-slips are automatically included on your T2125 form. Entering the amounts from your T-slips again is just going to incorrectly double your income.
This is a very stupid design. Why isn't there a way to assign my different T4As to different businesses? This is Self Employed Turbo Tax after all... shouldn't it be designed for Self-Employed people with multiple businesses? If I have multiple T4As from multiple independent businesses - all for professional services - there is no way to properly link them. I am having to find a new platform other than TurboTax to file my taxes with this year because of this issue. It would just take one button on the T4A page to have a dropdown menu of the businesses... or a spot to enter the business industry code from the business... makes no sense.
Based on what you are saying Susan, I have to falsely report my income from different businesses to the goverment, cause Turbo Tax is so poorly designed that it lumps all in T4A income into one business... this would be a disaster if I was audited cause it would not match my records at all. This defeats the entire purpose of honestly and accurately filing my taxes via Turbo Tax. Why haven't you fixed this since people have been posting about it here for 2 years? Does Turbo Tax just honestly not care about their users?
@Hcinnamon No one is asking you to untruthful. You are self-employed, so ultimately, all your businesses are still you, as an individual tax payer. Which is why income and expenses from all your T2125s are be combined into line 13500, and then combined with any other income you have. The T2125s will still be included in your tax return to show the details like expenses, business names & numbers, as well as your T4As, which will be in your name with your SIN.

Update: I just went over to Wealthsimple - which is Pay-what-you-want taxes and when you create a T2125 for each business, they AUTOMATICALLY pop up on your T4A on a drop down menu where you can link them - SO MUCH BETTER DESIGNED. I recommend all self-employed people go use that. It is CRA approved and again, you can pay what you want to file through them and it is way better designed!
Turbo Tax - if you are going to charge us, you need to hire people to update your platform so it actually works and is user-friendly! In the meantime, I urge you all to go over to Wealthsimple if you have this problem - I promise I don't work for them at all. But after 5 HOURS on the phone with Turbo Tax people who couldn't help me - their website offered an instant solution and was so much more user-friendly and better designed!
Susan, I agree that all the Commission Sales income and expenses will all aggregate and total into income on the second page of the T1 General BUT why not allow for the input of each T4A to be associated with each business that I have?
Your program already allows me to have individual T2125 forms for each of my businesses and labels them T2125-C1, T2125-C2, etc. So why can't you just set drop down box at the bottom of each T4A entry page to associate the T4A to the specific business (ef. T2125-C1) that generated that commission revenue. Then the commission revenue for each business will align with the expenses that I have for that business. Should be a very simple programing change that would allow for the accounting of the revenue for each business to the associated to the expenses for that business.
I have the same concern and specifically paid extra for the Home and Business version so that I could, you know, report the income from two separate home businesses accurately. It's worrying to have to file something which in aggregate is accurate but is inaccurate in the details. I
Honestly, just go use WealthSimple. I switched after this annoying unhelpful thread left me nowhere and its pay what you want and they have the exact drop down menu you are talking about - it was so simple and a dream come true. I am done with turbo tax forever - charging us all 10 times as much for a garbage product that can’t do basic things like you are saying. They obviously do not value their customers at all. Switch to WealthSimple. Trust me. I don’t work for them. I just spent hours on this thread getting super annoyed and I’ve spent six hours talking to TurboTax to try to resolve this issue and no one cares. Then I tried WealthSimple, and my problem was solved immediately and I got to pay $20 to file my taxes. But I could’ve paid five if I wanted. And the product is so much better.
@Hcinnamom— Can you please clarify if you are completing a Canadian or US return, as we see that you purchased TurboTax US returns?
