Its absurd that the program forces you to complete the entire return before trying to ransom you for the upgrade fee!!! I've gone back and removed the rental income fees, and the boxes81-83 on my T4 are entirely blank. Had to start from scratch and waste my time creating a brand new return not using last years info in order to get the simple filing to work
Next year I'll be using another software, the money grubbing ways of TurboTax is not for me any longer!!!
If last year was your final year of rental income- there was a box to check off so that this wouldn't transfer to this year's return.
Thank you for your feedback & for choosing TurboTax.
This is either ineptitude or a soft-scam by Intuit. Basically what they are saying is that we have to start from scratch and then manually update all info that would otherwise have been automatically added. It would be the simplest thing for Intuit to see that there is no rental income and stop the ransom at the end. Shame on you Intuit. I have been using your product for decades. That is over now. Switching to another service.
If you had rental income last year and transferred your information into TurboTax this year, yes, they will assume that you still have rental income. Next year, they will know that you no longer have rental income and will be able to transfer your information.
We appreciate your feedback.
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
Translation: If you pay the ransom this year, we'll give you a break next year.
Save your time and your money. Use a different platform.
Whenever you transfer from one year to another, it will automatically put you in the same software as you used last year. This is why it was advised that because your situation changed you will need to start a new return using the software version that would work for you this tax season.
