I have used TurboTax in some form for decades.  This year my spouse and I have a very simple tax situation, T5, T4A, medical expenses and donations.  I have $18 of interest income not on a T5 and for that Intuit tells me I need Premier edition.

Thank you, you have lost 2 customers for life.

My suggestion is lock whatever you wish behind your paywall, but maybe allow 2 or 3 (heck, even 1) locked features in the previous version before requiring an upgrade.  If this had been done, you'd still have a customer and I plan on living another 20 years at least.

If you are using the online version, since 2021, TurboTax has optimized its editions to ensure that our customers are getting access to the forms needed to make the most out of every individual's tax situation and to respect the accuracy guarantee. 

Since certain claims/expenses were moved to the appropriate edition. TurboTax is better able to guide our customers through their filing journey and ensure that no credits or deductions are missed. If the claim/expense is not covered by the edition you are in, you will be automatically prompted to upgrade to the appropriate one. 

Do It Yourself Premier

Covers what’s in Deluxe, plus:

• Capital gains and losses
• Investment income
• Foreign income

If you only have a T5 with Box 13 (Interest from Canadian sources), Deluxe should be the end of the line for you. You shouldn't be asked to pay for Premier unless you suddenly add a rental property or a business (T2125), or you have income reported on T5 in boxes other than Box 13.
