Why do I need an online account.

Why do I need an online account when I dont use my computer online??

I've never needed it since it was called CanTax. I don't use my dedicated Tax computer online for security reason and this is a loyalty buster for me. I also didn't expect to not have a CD  in my purchase

Please explain.

if you are connected to the internet you are online. if you get updates to your turbotax program you are online. 

 you need an intuit account because you need a license code to activate your turbotax program and this is only available online. you can get 2024 on cd for $10 but this is an install only and does not have the license code. you also need the license code to get the cd. also other tax preparers will probably not issue cds in the future because new computers do not come with a cd drive anymore. this is progress.

That not true. I never needed an online account to update turbotax before this version. When I needed to update I simply reconnected to the internet and disconnected before I reprocess my taxes. it gives me peace of mind knowing my data is safe from prying eyes I dedicated this PC only for my family’s taxes and never use it to surf the internet.

Regarding CD’s. Give us a USB stick instead

It was the same last year.  Starting in 2023 you need to sign in or create an account to install the Desktop program.  Under the File tab it shows the account you signed into.  You can sign out if you want, but you will need to sign in again to e-file, update, or install states.  And another reason is so they can enforce the License that you can only install on 5 computers you own and efile 5 returns.  After you install it you can still use it offline.

Or did you accidentally get into the Online version?   That’s been happening to people who bought the Desktop program.   Did you get it installed and activated with the 16 digit License Code ?

This is exactly why I don’t like doing my personal taxes online. Yes and thank you. I am in Canada. If I didn’t mention Cantax I would be non the wiser. Probably why its asking me to register again.
