Your province of self-employment is different from your province of residence?

Hi, on your Self Employment form, please verify the province entered is the same as your province of residence as of December 31st.

Thank you for using Turbo tax.

Your province of self-employment is different from your province of residence?

This same happened to me but I didn't have any self-employment form, nor did I have any self employment job. I also checked my T4 slips and all of them are AB

@jnpcsl If you've entered an amount from any of the boxes on the slips listed here, you have what the CRA considers to be self-employment or business income:

  • T4 slip: box 81, 82 or 83
  • T4A slip: box 20 or 48
  • T4A slip: box 28 and you answered Yes to the question Does the income declared in Box 028 consist of fees collected for services you provided? in TurboTax Online
  • T3 slip: box 24 (foreign business income)

If you have an amount in any of these boxes, TurboTax will ask additional questions to report the income as self-employment/business income. You only need to answer basic information, such as business name and address (can be your own), industry code, and fiscal period (Jan 01 to December 31).

What's up with this ?

Your province of self-employment is different from your province of residence?

I resolved it. How I did it is:

Situation:

  • I recently changed address and moved, but still inside the Alberta province.
  • The same day I am doing turbotax, I changed my address in my CRA account.

When I was filing:

  • There was a question there (under personal questions? I forgot the exact section) where it asks "Did you change your mailing address?" or something similar. I initially answered "YES" and appeared a notes saying NETFILE blablabla and I should notify CRA regarding the change, which I did when I changed my address in the CRA website.
  • I finished inputting all the infos and proceeded to file, then a red "FIX" dialogue was shown and it says this exact problem of self employment...etc.
  • I double checked all boxes if it has an amount on them to be identified as "self employment" but nothing.
  • In the end, I just chose to ignore it and file but still couldnt get through netfile

Try again:

  • I tried filing again and went back to the question,  "Did you change your mailing address?" or something similar. I now tried selecting no. Then it worked.

My friend who was helping me initially was from BC and is now filing here in AB. She selected Yes in the answer but did not received any netfile prompt, she said. I am thinking maybe this is only true if it's changing from one province to another type of deal, not within the same province.

I maybe wrong too but it worked I guess

@ElCheapoOttawa Please use your Home address ( address on your Tax Return) to by pass this error OR check "Did you change your mailing address?" or something similar. Select no to confirm that.
