Do I claim paying rent if I was giving rent money to a parent?

I would either give my parent cash or e transfer them to cover my portion of the rent but don’t have actual rent paid proof

To claim your rent, you will need receipts if the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) ever requests them and the parent may need to provide records of claiming the rental income they received on their tax return.

As seen in our TurboTax article: Can I Claim a Tax Deduction for My Rent? There are special rules that apply for certain types of rent situations when the amount is a cost-sharing arrangement.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
