in personal info, it's asking for 2016 line 236 info for my wife
do I add the amount from last year's return since I haven't done 2016 for my wife yet?

You would need to add her net income for 2016. 

When you don’t know your spouse’s income and can’t find out through reasonable means, the CRA recommends that you enter your best estimate.
