My spouse is not Canadian and doesn’t live in Canada. How do I file my taxes?

When you start your return, you’ll need to select that you are preparing the return only for yourself. If you are transferring information from last year, you will have the option to only transfer your information.

You’ll still select that you are married

When it asks for your spouse’s SIN number, you can enter 000000000 (nine zeros). If you’re not sure what their income is, you can enter $0 (zero). Either way, do not claim the spouse/common-law partner amount.

Thank You for choosing TurboTax.
