Typically, only one person should enter information related to property taxes paid on their tax return. If you and another person jointly own property, such as a home, you should each enter only your portion of the property taxes paid based on your ownership interest in the property.
For example, if you and your spouse jointly own a home and paid $6,000 in property taxes for the year, you would each enter $3,000 on your separate tax returns. It's important to ensure that the total amount of property taxes paid reported across all relevant tax returns adds up to the correct total amount paid for the year.
As per the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), if you are a co-owner, enter your share of the amount from line 9369 on amount 5. This amount is based on your share of ownership of the rental property.
If you are a co-owner or partner, also fill in Part 2 – Details of other co-owners and partners.
Please visit, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) page for more information: Line 9180 – Property taxes
