Why can I not input more than 999999 shares in Schedule 3 number of shares

TurboTax software will only allow a six digit entry on the Schedule 3 "number of shares" section. As you cannot exceed 999,999 you could either:

  • Split your transaction so you would have two or more dispositions of less than 999,999.
  • Enter the 999,999 if the number of shares you disposed of exceeds this and if questioned by CRA have your supporting documents available and explain that the software would not accept a higher figure.

Why is this a restriction? Turbo tax advertises being able to manage crypto and stocks which could be in fractions of a cent, this is a pretty terrible restriction to try and overcome.  The solution you are suggesting is to divide my sale into 50 or 100 separate entries?
