Claim online courses for self-employed

As a self-employed web developer I take a lot of different online courses throughout the year to improve my knowledge.

I usually have up to $1000 in invoices from these courses. These are not through any school or accredited institution.

Is there any category I can claim these expenses under for self-employed?

This also includes buying some educational e-books. Can these be expensed at all as well?
