I am a factual resident of Canada and a self-employed missionary in another country. Income source is from Canadian address (I am sub-contracted by the organization). Can I claim moving expenses such as a plane ticket for moving myself/my effects?
Yes. If you are a factual resident of Canada, you can claim your eligible moving expenses from Canada to another country. For more info please see http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/ndvdls/tpcs/ncm-tx/rtrn/cmpltng/ddctns/lns206-236/219/mv-eng.html However, keep in mind that these expenses cannot exceed your net business income earned in the new location. If they do exceed this income, you will carry the unclaimed amounts forward to next year.
