I made RRSP contributions in 2017, and bought a house in 2017 - my first time home buyer credit does not seem to benefit me at all, is that normal?

Depending on your tax situation the non-refundable first time home buyer credit may not have an impact on your bottomline. If you have a spouse consider having your spouse claim the entire amount, if they qualify.
