If Trevor died in 2019, then yes, you would report that he has passed and enter the date of his death. But, if he died in 2020, then he was still alive in 2019. So you would fill out his 2019 return normally. Next year, when you are doing Trevor’s return for 2020, that’s when you would report his death.
