I typically transfer from the previous years but noticed I had a significant amount not accounted for on my notice of assessment. Is there a way that I can include this amount as a lump sum by taking the amount indicated on the NoA, subtracting the amount already accounted for in the program; so I can use the credits to their potential
If you have reported your tuition amounts correctly for each year then CRA will track the amount of carry forward available for use in 2017. The Notice of Assessment will be the final authority as to your eligible claim. If you have a discrepancy with the NOA you will need to contact CRA or investigate the information at your My Account on the CRA website.
Once you are confident with the actual number to report as a carry forward then access the data input screen on the left hand menu, “Deductions & Credits” > “Students” and place a check mark at “Unused tuition fees …from previous years. You will then be able to indicate the Federal and Provincial amounts separately.
