Thanks for your question. The amounts of unused credit are applied to reduce tax payable automatically. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) applies the available tuition amount carried forward every year to reduce your taxes to zero until it has all been used. Since you still have tuition carry forward, that means you didn't have enough taxes payable for tuition credit to be used. That's why your tuition credit is carried forward from 2011.
