With no earned income but a large carry forward amount can one still contribute to a RRSP

Yes, if you still have contribution room as per the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), you can continue to contribute to your RRSPs and claim them in that year but save the deduction for a future year when it is needed to lower your taxes.
