Hello all!
I am a Canadian Citizen and lived in Canada for 2021 - I made my own income and lived separately from my American husband who lived in the USA making his own income - married but two separate house holds due to covid.
Do I need to somehow put his American income into my Canadian return even though our income was separate in 2021? I know that I have to put his sin as 000 000 000 but unsure if I enter 0 on income or estimate what he made there into CAD.
Thank you so much!
Yes. In Canada, you must provide information about your spouse on your own tax return.
Be prepared to declare your marital status and your spouse’s income. If your spouse is earning American dollars, enter your spouse's income (converted to CAN $) rather than zeros.
This will remove the spousal credit and give an accurate picture of your income as a couple.
