I got a TurboTax update today. The warning message was fixed but NOT the coding error.
Would Turbo Tax please fix this ASAP!!!
Box 52 + Box 53 should equal Box 21.

I thought the error message is fixed for the T3 form on 14 th of April but I still got the error message.
The sum of capital gains before June 25 in box 52, and capital gains after June 24 in box 53, must equal the total capital gains. Please advise. There are only 16 days left

My Box 52 and 53 are blank on T3 slip. When I tried to submit my 2024 tax, it gave me the error message. This is a simple fix but turbotax took a long time and it is not being fixed. Maybe we need a money refund with the late tax filing.

I finally got rid of the Turbotax warnings I was getting. Here's what I did.
I was getting Turbotax errors (not Netfile errors) saying: The amount of FOREIGN capital gains in Box 52 plus boxes 54 and 56 can’t be more than TOTAL capital gains in box 52. Similar message for boxes 52, 55, and 57.
And another error to the effect of: The sum of capital gains in boxes 52 and 53 must equal the total capital gains in box 21.
I had 4 T3s and did not know which had the problem. I deleted the T3s I had entered, one by one, until the warnings went away. That meant deleting 3 of them. Then I re-entered them one by one, checking for warnings each time.
When typing in the T3 info, I did not type anything into the box 21 fields. I went to the ‘Other Boxes’ page and entered my amounts in boxes 52 to 57 as supplied on the form. I generally entered the same amounts twice: once under Foreign capital gains and once under Total capital gains. When I went back to the first page, Turbotax had usually filled in the box 21 numbers, for both Foreign and Total capital gains. The Turbotax errors went away.
I do not know if I would get any Netfile errors because I am not ready to submit. I don’t trust that Turbotax hasn’t corrupted my numbers in the background on my return, so I am going to re-enter the whole return again. Thank you, Turbotax. After 15+ years of using you, I won’t be using you again.
I feel your pain. I believe I have been using TurboTax since the early 90's when it was called QuickTax and this year has been, by far, the worst tax season ever, and it's still not over. I will admit that the CRA and Government of Canada have their share of blame, but I also am done with TurboTax. Using it has become a chore and quite unpleasant. Once software becomes unpredictable it is time to move on.
I have an error message today April 18 that says box 52 and 53 must add up to box 21, and mine does. However, the checking of this is adding up DIVIDENDS box 50 to capital gains box 21. Dividends have nothing to do with capital gains, so it would never be equal. Looks like a coding error in the form. When will this be fixed I cannot file my taxes.
April 18: I just closed and reopened the software (that I had updated this morning). My error has now disappeared, so if anyone has trouble try updating the software, go in your file, if still an error try closing and reopening the software.
BEWARE: Everything looked good when I restarted TT. I tried to Netfile again and got the same error. To complicate things further, my account is now locked and the CRA offices are closed for the Easter break.
This is beyond ridiculous. Too many variables with too many possibilities of failure.
If you try to Netfile, remember there's a limited number of attempts you can try before the system locks you out.
You would think the CRA knows this and expands the number of attempts or clears the count with software based submissions.
