Can I file my own taxes if I started my bankruptcy last year ?

If you declared bankruptcy in the tax year, we do not recommend that you use TurboTax.

In the year that you declared bankruptcy, you are required to create two separate returns: one for the period from January 1 to the day before you declared bankruptcy and the second for the remainder of the calendar year. You must divide the personal amount of credit between the two returns according to the number of days in each period.

Note: If you declared bankruptcy, you are ineligible to use NETFILE, so you must print and mail your return. You are also required to send a copy of the court issued Assignment in Bankruptcy, a Bankruptcy Notice, or correspondence entitled First Meeting of Creditors to your tax services office.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
