I get the error messages that 52/53 do not match 21.
However I have original T3's with values in box 21 but 0 in box 52 and 53 (. and if I add the 21 value into like 53 it increases what I owe as if it counts it on top of 21. These original have values in 49/50/51...
But if this error expects that every T3 that has a box 21 needs also values in 52/53 I have a problem.
Box 53 should be set to whatever box 21 is. It will not increase your taxable income.
It is unusual that your box 52 or 53 was blank if you had something in box 21. TT probably uses boxes 52&53 to calculate income (not 21), maybe that is why it seems like your taxable income increased.
@Anne04 it actually does for the T3 slips that had no value in boxes 52 or 53 to start with. If you had values in 52 and 53 and you only delete 52 and add all together in 53 it does not. Ai least my turbotax behaved like that
@Anne04 I just did another experiment. I used one of my T3 slips that come with values in box 21 52 and 53. If I delete the value in box 21 nothing changes what turbotax tells you you owe or get as refund. If you delete what is in 52 or 53 but leave the value in 21 the refund/owe value changes and if you delete both values in 52 and 53 and still leave the value in 21 intact the refund owe changes the most as it now counts both 52 and 53. From that it seems that turbotax counts based on what is in 52/53 not per se what is in 21.
Now that makes sense given how your physical Tslip defines what 21 is (the wording changed from last year to this year). Compare the wordings for yourself in your T3 physical slip for this year and last year describing box 21. However, that means that every T3 slip should have come with a value in 52 or 53 or both. But some T3 slips come with no value in 52/53 period. And Turbotax depends on an entry in 52/53 to flag the 21 amount. At least my turbotax
Thanks for pointing that out.
But since box 21 could also include values from box 30, 55, 56 and 57. Then it is possible that boxes 52 and 53 are legitimately blank.
@Anne04 I agree, however Turbotax did not let me move to submit my taxes giving me the 52/53 error everyone was talking about and so I added the 21 value into 53 and the error went away. It did not went away by moving 52 content into 53.. And I never thought that error applied to T3's that had no 52/53 values reported in the physical slip. There is obviously a coding problem or there was a problem with T3's from some sources not giving the 52/53 value.
