Hi @TurboTaxAniqua,
My issue seems to be with turbotax and not the CRA (could be wrong on this), but I can't even make it to the netfile portion of the online software to get an error because of the T3 issue.
I understand that the issue with netfiling is known by the CRA, but isn't this issue on the T3 side due to something with the Turbotax software?
Has there been an update to the potential fix time, I saw that it was supposed to be fixed yesterday and then moved to the 16th, is that going to pushed out as well?
Regards
I finally got rid of the Turbotax warnings I was getting. Here's what I did.
I was getting Turbotax errors (not Netfile errors) saying: The amount of FOREIGN capital gains in Box 52 plus boxes 54 and 56 canāt be more than TOTAL capital gains in box 52. Similar message for boxes 53, 55, and 57.
And another error to the effect of: The sum of capital gains in boxes 52 and 53 must equal the total capital gains in box 21.
I had 4 T3s and did not know which had the problem. I deleted the T3s I had entered, one by one, until the warnings went away. That meant deleting 3 of them. Then I re-entered them one by one, checking for warnings each time.
When typing in the T3 info, I did not type anything into the box 21 fields. I went to the āOther Boxesā page and entered my amounts in boxes 52 to 57 as supplied on the form. I generally entered the same amounts twice: once under Foreign capital gains and once under Total capital gains. When I went back to the first page, Turbotax had usually filled in the box 21 numbers, for both Foreign and Total capital gains. The Turbotax errors went away.
I do not know if I would get any Netfile errors because I am not ready to submit. I donāt trust that Turbotax hasnāt corrupted my numbers in the background on my return, so I am going to re-enter the whole return again. Thank you, Turbotax. After 15+ years of using you, I wonāt be using you again.
The latest from Intuit. "As you heard last week, some customers have experienced a CRA systems error which impacted their ability to file their taxes. These errors are affecting all CRA certified tax software across Canada."
I filed online with Wealthsimple and had zero issues. Apparently not ALL software is affected by this issue. I'll be seeking a refund and moving to a different platform next year. There are Canadian alternatives available at the same or lower pricing. YANKEE GO HOME!!
My problem has been solved. The issue was there are two T3 box 21ās, two box 52ās, and two box 53ās in turbo tax. But Only one box on the actual T3. I didnāt realize there are duplicate boxes. I just filled the first one I saw in turbo tax. When I matched my entries to the non foreign capital gains boxes, all error messages disappeared. I suggest in the future, you only have one box per number. In other words, only one box 21, only one box 52, and only one box 53.
I am still unable to Netfile the income tax due to problems with the T3 form. We are running out of time to get things filed with the CRA.My next step is to take my taxes to a professional and pay their price to have the taxes done. When is this fix coming?
I am in the same situation. Have been on hold for weeks waiting for the fix. April 14th came and went and still nothing but frustration. Looks like have mail it in. I will be expecting voucher from turbo tax for wasted time and no result. As if taxes arenāt stressful enough.
Hey Don147, I had the same issue as you with my T3's showing only 1 box for box 21, 52 and 53. Turbotax has 2 boxes for 21, 52 and 53. I put my T3 values in the first box of each and got the same errors as you preventing me from filing. After talking to a turbotax agent on the phone today for half an hour she finally instructed me to make sure that my entries were in the total capital gains boxes for 21, 52 and 53. She said total capital gains included foreign capital gains anyway. After putting box 21 in the 1st box 21 (total cap gains) and box 52 and 53 in the second boxes (Total Capital gains) the errors were removed and I was able to net file. Also now the capital gains show up in schedule 3 now while they didn't before. The Turbotax agent told me this is what she has been instructing people to do and it works and wishes Turbotax would fix the problem or at least sent out a post of what to do. Good luck I'm sure this will correct your errors.
TurboTax owes us compensation. This isn't all CRA's fault. Using the advice to put total capital gains in Box 53 and match to Box 21 on my T3, I was able to eliminate the Warning from TurboTax before the Netfile step. Then, I saved my return as a PDF and went through it line by line to make sure the numbers made sense and were in the right places. I checked values in boxes 12700, 15000, 23400, 23600, 26000 and 48500 on the PDF. I also checked values in boxes 17600, 19700, 19900 in Schedule 3 as well as boxes 68140 and 68150 on Chart A. I had a successful Netfile this morning. I should NOT have to go through all these steps to file a simple return through TurboTax. Hopefully, CRA won't come back with a problem as a result of this TurboTax mess. I want compensation. Moderators... get on that. I want my money back. Otherwise, you've lost me as a customer. I will share my experience with everyone I know and on social media. You failed us. Still angry...
Agreed. There are other options out there. Not worth potentially enduring this frustration next year.
Didnāt work for me , Iām trying everything. No more Turbotax next year.
