I am expecting a tax refund, however when I include my student loan interest payments, my refund increased. But I though these interest payments only offset taxes owed?

Student Loan Interest is a non-refundable tax credit. Claimable at line 319 on the tax return. Review the detailed tax summary for this calculation.

DETAILED SUMMARY

You can find a detailed summary of your tax return under the "Review" tab > "Bottom Line (tax summaries)"> then look for the paper and magnifying glass icon in the lower left hand corner, select "Detailed Tax Summary". You will have a line by line sample of the Federal Tax.
