I am preparing a tax return for someone who was married during the year. I want to add a joint return for his wife now that he is married but it is not prompting to add

I prepared both returns separately in 2023. I understand I can only roll forward one of the two returns. But when I change the marital status from single to married, there is not prompt to add a return for the spouse to file together. Instead, it just asks me to manually enter net income, etc.

You have to start a new return without importing information from the previous year and start a new return by select that you are preparing a 'Joint return".

In this case, If you import it won't allow you to create a joint return.
