Payments to Group Health Plan

My wife is an RN but works on a casual basis.   Because she doesn't work enough hours in the year to have the health premiums paid by her work, we pay the premium directly ourselves.  It is not deducted by the health authority.   Does anyone know if this is considered a private health insurance that we can claim as a medical expense?

Yes, go to the T1 form line 33099, double click it to open up the Medical Expenses form, scroll down to near the bottom. You will see a section "Premiums paid to hospital or private plans". The first line is where it would enter the premiums deducted by the employer. The second and third lines allow you to enter the name of the plan and the amount you paid for private plans.
