Why does Turbotax ask for a T4E slip?

The T4E slip is your Statement of Employment Insurance and Other Benefits
You would receive a T4E slip if you:
  • received Employment Insurance (EI) benefits
  • received Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) payments from Service Canada, or
  • repaid an overpayment from a previous year
Employment insurance benefits are taxable in the year which they are paid. You must record them in your income tax return for that year.

If you did not receive a T4E in the mail, log in and check your My Service Canada account for the slip:
My Service Canada Account (MSCA) - Canada.ca

If none of the above reasons for receiving a T4E slip apply to you and you do not see your T4E slip on your My Service Canada account, then you would not be required to record a T4E. However, if you are being prompted to provide a T4E slip when you do not have one, you may have entered something incorrectly regarding EI benefits or CERB into TurboTax.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
