Renaming a tax return doesn't work

I deleted a tax return that wasn't the correct version (free compared to deluxe)

It wasn't submitted or finalized or anything.

Deleted that, then started a new return.

I went to rename the new return and I get this message below:

"Sorry, this name is already being used for an existing return."

Even though the old one is deleted and gone.  Shouldn't have this error.

Renaming a tax return doesn't work

TurboTax Online stores your session data in your browser's cache. If you just deleted the return, the server might still think the name is reserved.

Try these troubleshooting steps to clear the error:

Sign out of TurboTax completely.

Clear your browser cache (or open a "Private/Incognito" window).

Sign back in.

Try renaming the new return again. This usually forces the database to realize the previous file with that name no longer exists.

If a refresh doesn't work, the system might have a "soft lock" on that name for 24 hours.

Rename your new return to something slightly different (e.g., add "v2" or the year at the end, like TaxReturn2025).

Wait 24 hours for the Intuit servers to run their nightly maintenance, which clears out the "trash" files.

You should then be able to rename it back to the original name without the error.

Let me know how it goes, Thanks
