Remover Box 53 gains and add them to Box 52. That is, make sure Box 52 ends up the same value as Box 21 and Box 53 is zero.
Thanks again GordoD!
I was on the verge of giving up. I did as you suggested and moved all the T-3 capital gain amounts into box 52 and out of box 53. And then....
I e-filed my return successfully!
BUT
Now it won't permit my to file my husband's return!
It says, "
To accurately calculate your capital gains, you need to enter a date of disposition in 2024 on your T5008 slip(s). |
But I DID enter all the dates of disposition!
Is this another one where I have to fudge the dates to show prior to June 2024?
Sigh.
I’m not 100% sure, but I’m guessing if you again enter Jan 1, 2024 as the disposition dates on your husbands return, it will work.
My apologies - I found that I had made an error - when entering dates from T2008, I erred and entered 1924 instead of 2024. (You can tell I'm last century.)
Both returns have been successfully e-filed. Only took endless hours and needless stress.
Fingers crossed.
I have 250 T5008s. Gonna wait for the fix. I think we have until June 2 to file.
As long as you are sure that you will get a refund. I had 200+ 5008 but had to pay tax, so I had to download the 5008 and fix the "date" and "Capital Gains" and filed it.
@Vagrant365 It is not a software issue. We understand that this is not ideal, but you can also combine them and keep track of your T5008 on a spreadsheet for your records.
As per CRA, February 14, 2025 - Auto-fill my return:
While the proposed effective date for the increase to the capital gains inclusion rate has been deferred to January 1, 2026, the CRA is maintaining capital disposition reporting for period 1 (dispositions that occurred before June 25, 2024) and period 2 (dispositions that occurred on or after June 25, 2024). This applies to both the T1 and T3 income tax returns. Period 1 and period 2 reporting is being maintained to ensure continued alignment with the tax slips that have already been published and are currently being issued to Canadians and filed with the CRA. As well, the proposed increase to the lifetime capital gains exemption applies starting with the capital dispositions in period 2 of qualified farm or fishing property and qualified small business corporation shares.
Note: Auto-fill my return service will not deliver box 14 of the T5008, Statement of Securities Transactions, which is relevant for period 1 and period 2 reporting of capital dispositions, and boxes 270 to 273 on the T5013, Statement of Partnership Income. Please ensure that all proper fields on the return are filled in correctly, including information not delivered by the Auto-fill my return service, and that the information provided is true, accurate, and complete.
Thank you for choosing TurboTax
I beg to differ with the Turbo Tqx moderator. It most certainly IS a software error if one autofills their T5008 with entries for Period 1 and Period 2, but then they don’t role into Schedule 3. Read the 5 pages of user issues.
Don’t quote CRA emails if your software doesn’t perform as intended.
Agree, if your T5008's have dates that are within the "period 2" dates, then the data DOES NOT carry forward. The only way to force the software to carry forward is to force all dates into "period 1".
Hey Turbo tax, this is not the good attitude to solve the issue.
