Turbo says T3 not balancing box 52+53 to equal box 21 but all figures are correct and they do balance so why the error?

Is anyone at turbo tax getting the information about this problem?  I assume you are a community member rather than an employee?  People are coming up with creative ideas to fix it, which is great, but it would be better to have a response from turbo tax.

Turbo says T3 not balancing box 52+53 to equal box 21 but all figures are correct and they do balance so why the error?

Hello Again,

So as I mentioned I was splitting the T3 with my wife(50%) each.  The total for box 21 was and odd number ending in 3,  850.43.  So I added 1 cent and changed it to 850.44.  I also added 1 cent to the amount in box 53. And voila the error disappeared.  So it seems that the software cannot handle splitting an odd number in 2.

I will file with the 1 cent change as I don't think that it will be a problem.  But the software should be able to handle this situation and it should be fixed.  It seems like the users are the ones doing the troubleshooting.  But thank God for the community otherwise I would keep banging my head.

Just got a note from Turbo-tax that I could now complete and file my tax return as Capital Gains forms were available.

I have no idea what they are talking about but, as of 3/21, this is *not* fixed.

The problem has nothing to do with the government mess re: Capital Gains, (unless Turbo Tax created the problem intentionally to keep people from stumbling into an indecided area of tax legislation.)

This is a problem with their software.

interestingly, I have tried all of the suggested fixes and none of them worked for me.  I assume the glitch will be fixed soon.

Unfortunately, there is more to it than that.

I am not splitting my T3 with my spouse and my numbers add up to an even number.

The only way I can get it to work is to round 52 and 53 and 21 so that there are no cents.

The concern is not that doing so is illegal or anything and I'm not cheating so I'm not worried. It is simply that I don't want some "alarm" going off and suddenly I get "reviewed" or audited since that process is a PITA.

You rounded off 52/53 and 21, removed all the cents and made sure the integer values balanced and that still did not work? I think that has worked for others, and for me.

I have the same problem.  i deleted the T3 downloaded from CRA - re-populated it - and got the same error message.

spent two hours on this.  frustrating.

Yes, removing all of the cents worked!  just rounding up to even numbers did not.  Also, as Robert suggested, using the number from box 21 in box 53 works too.

Finally,

As mentioned in these discussions I ended up putting the total in box 52 to match box 21 and left box 53 as "0". Not happy that Turbo tax could not figure out a fix for this by now though. Also on a side note just read today that the proposed capital gains tax increase is officially getting scrapped by the CRA that was set to increase Jun. 25th.

I had the same problem. Put total in box 21 in Box 52 and put 0 in box 53. Error gone plus no change in final tax refunded or owing. Issue CRA may flag T3 as technically incorrect and hold up return or force to be amended. Any body filed with this hack fix and no change later from CRA. Plus why hasn't turbo tax fixed what is a very simple programming issue, at best commented on fix date.
