TurboTax is indicating that each return I make has an additional cost, even though the package I bought comes with 8 returns. Am I understanding that correctly?

Am trying to file jointly, but TurboTax (when I start the process) indicated the cost of filing to be another $50, when my assumption was that I could file up to eight time with the Deluxe package I purchased.

Because we have made changes to our online editions this year to allow for maximum results based on individuals person tax situation; you may be upgraded throughout the process of filing depending on what you are claiming. What you were able to claim in previous years, no longer applies.

Let me explain....

The FREE edition is limited to what can be applied. Go to this link - https://bit.ly/3roi8ay under the FREE edition and click on "simple tax returns", (in blue) which will explain what that edition covers. Anything beyond what is on that list, you will be prompted to upgrade to the edition that suits your personal circumstances.  

Deluxe edition, (name change from previous years known as Standard) - (Covers everything in  FREE +) any type of medical receipts, donations or childcare claims. 

Premier edition - (Covers everything in  Deluxe +) any type of investment income, cryptocurrency foreign or rental income. 

Self-Employment - (Covers everything in Premier +) Self-Employment income and expenses you need to claim. 

So if you are asked to pay additional charges, it is most likely because your claims go beyond the parameters of the Deluxe edition.

Also take note that if you are filing a joint return, you will be automatically upgraded to the higher edition, as the software cannot combine two different editions together.
