Where do I claim electricity and water bills paid

Whether you can claim electricity and water bills depends on whether they are for a home office or a business, or if you are looking for low-income assistance, primarily through CRA tax filing.

If you worked from home, you can claim a portion of the electricity and water bills.

File Form T777 (Statement of Employment Expenses) with your personal income tax return. You must have a Form T2200 (Declaration of Conditions of Employment) signed by your employer.

If you are self-employed

Use Form T2125 (Business-use-of-home expenses).

You can deduct a portion of your electricity and water based on the area used for business.
