by TurboTax• Updated 10 months ago
Newfoundland introduced a refundable tax credit in 2021 for families to claim up to $2,000 of eligible sport and recreational activity expenses. A maximum credit of $174 is available per family.
For an activity to be eligible, it must contribute to your cardiorespiratory endurance, plus either:
- Muscular strength
- Muscular endurance
- Flexibility
- Balance
For full eligibility details, see Newfoundland and Labrador’s Physical Activity Tax Credit webpage.
Either you or your spouse/common-law partner can claim the credit, but the total amount claimed can't be more than $2,000. You don’t need to submit receipts, but you should keep them on hand in case the CRA asks for supporting documents.
